INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Safety Bank, a registered non-profit with a mission to provide adequate safety equipment to racers in need, announces the second annual “LEGACY” driver campaign.
Founded in 2023 by professional racecar driver, team owner, and soon-to-be attorney, Taylor Ferns, The Safety Bank began pursuant to Taylor’s recognition of the rising costs in motorsports and safety equipment being undervalued and overlooked. She wanted to help bridge the gap and ease the cost burden for racers relating to safety products by leveraging her professional relationships built in the community over the last 23 years.
The “LEGACY” campaign aligns with the organization's mission by allowing a select racer the opportunity to be fully equipped in Safety Bank branded gear and act as an ambassador throughout the subsequent race season. In collaboration with Simpson Race Products, the “LEGACY” recipient will receive a new helmet, gloves, shoes, nomex (top, bottom, socks, and head sock), and firesuit.
Although The Safety Bank has already provided 30+ racers with equipment, and they will continue to do so based on donations received, the intention of this separate contest is to highlight a well-rounded racer who is not only competitive on the track, but also demonstrates leadership, community, positivity, passion for motorsports, and a “never give up” attitude in what they do off the track. Each racer has their own unique story to tell, and The Safety Bank wants to emphasize that.
The Safety Bank’s first “LEGACY” recipient was Ashlyn Wittmer, a Quarter Midget and Jr. Sprint racer from Pennsylvania, who most recently won her first Jr. Sprint race and captured the NASCAR Youth Car IQ Pay Fab Four Championship in her respective division.
The guidelines and eligibility for this campaign are as follows:
• Complete and submit application by 11:59PM on Monday, January 6th, 2025;
• Open to racers, both male and female, between the ages 5-18;
• Drivers can nominate themselves or be nominated by another individual;
• Drivers can have already applied for equipment via The Safety Bank’s regular application.
o If the driver has already applied for equipment via The Safety Bank’s regular application, they will have to fill out another application specifically for this campaign.
o If the applicant driver is not chosen for the “LEGACY” campaign, we will put them in queue for equipment we have in stock.
The winner will be announced in the weeks following the application deadline.
If someone is in need of safety equipment but is outside of the campaign guidelines and/or eligibility requirements, they can still apply for gear via The Safety Bank’s regular application. That application will remain open indefinitely.
