Attica Raceway Park Opens 2024 Season; Lucius, Stemler, Miller Pick Up Feature Wins

Attica Raceway Park Opens 2024 Season; Lucius, Stemler, Miller Pick Up Feature Wins

Unfamiliar faces graced Attica Raceway Park victory lane in the two premier divisions during the season opener Friday night, while a veteran picked up yet another 305 Sprint Car feature win.

17-year-old Bryce Lucius snagged the lead away from Cale Thomas with two laps to go to earn his first-career 410 Sprint Car feature win. Thomas had driven from ninth to the lead in lapped traffic, but a late bobble in one and two allowed Lucius to get by him and steal the win.

“I felt like we were pretty good through the dirty air and it seemed like he was struggling. He went through the middle and got cut off by lapped cars and after that we were able to pass him in three just like that,” said Lucius. “After that, it was about making the car as wide as I can.”

A past winner at Attica in 305 competition, getting his first 410 win at the 1/3-mile was special. It now gives his team decisions to make after a big points night to start out the season.

“It’s definitely pretty cool. It’s a track that I’ve been coming to for a few years now. It’s a lot more special to get it in the 410’s. We’ll have to figure out where we’re at with points for Attica and Fremont, we might have to stick around here after that.”

In the Late Model feature, it was Michigan’s Travis Stemler making the trip south and taking the win from the local contingent. He lost a couple spots early in the feature before he found the bottom groove, taking the lead in short order and running away with the win.

“The first couple laps I hit some holes and messed up and lost a couple spots. I was kind of disappointed in myself and then I found that bottom groove,” Stemler stated. It caught me a couple times but then we were able to key in on it and just drove with it.”

It was the second Attica feature win for Stemler, who has made the season opener a consistent stop on his schedule in recent years.

“Back when I came here with Phillips Racing in 2017 I just loved this place. It’s been a place that I’ve come close to winning at a couple times. There’s nothing like heading to Attica in March to kick off the racing season. It’s a track that reminds me of I-96 Speedway a little bit, just a little bit smaller.”

While it was two relatively new faces in 410 Sprint Car and Late Model victory lane, it was multi-time track champion Jamie Miller picking up 305 Sprint Car feature win No.40 with a late pass on Dustin Stroup.

Attica Raceway Park will be back in action next Friday night with all three weekly divisions.
