Auto City Modifies 2021 Schedule

Clio, MI (Tuesday, March 16, 2021) - The schedule has been released for the 2021 season at the Auto City Outdoor Event Center and Owner/Promoter, Joe DeWitte, is ready to get back to a race filled season. It’ll feature eight nights of Modified racing, seven Maximum Destruction shows, four divisions competing for track championships, a street stock invitational that will honor Hall of Famer, Jay Woolworth, and a date with the Outlaw Super Late Models for the return of the Mudslinger 100, an event that will be part of the new “Reveal the Hammer”, OSLM Series.

When asked about the schedule, Joe had this to say, “There is no doubt that we’ve experimented with a few different events here at Auto City over the past few years. But short track racing is still the backbone of what we want to do here. We’ll have events that will interest fans of all types of short track racing, and a handful of non-short track racing events too. Being able to offer a variety of quality racing and entertainment for the people in the Mid-Michigan area is our goal.”

The Modified division has the most dates scheduled on the calendar than it has in a long time. Getting back to having more of these types of cars at Auto City was a priority for this season for Joe.

“The Mods bring excitement. They look cool and they are fast,” explained DeWitte. “The fans love the competition the open wheeled cars bring. There are a lot of them all over the State these days, and they’re getting more and more popular. We’re happy to have them here regularly in 2021.”

The Mods will join the Pure Stocks, All American Trucks, and the Figure-8 class as the house divisions at Auto City. Appearances by the 6 cylinder class, the Lipstick Ladies, and Enduro racing will also be part of this year’s schedule.

The OSLM come in on August 28 for the Mudslinger 100 as part of the inaugural Reveal The Hammer OSLM Series. This first-year-series consists of seven races at five different tracks. It’ll start in the spring in Indiana for races at New Paris and Anderson Speedways, then into Michigan with two races each at Berlin Raceway and Birch Run Speedway, and the Mudslinger at Auto City. The early entry list for this series is impressive and looks to be a great end-of-summer race for the Mid-Michigan area. In June, Auto City will hold a memorial event for one of its most popular drivers, Jay Woolworth. Jay raced for seven decades at the Clio speedplant and passed away in 2020. A longtime member of the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame, his fan base stretches from lake to lake in the State of Michigan.

There was very little thought put into the decision to hold this event. “This was a no-brainer. I still have to get with the family to nail down all the details of laps, money and any other details,” explained DeWitte. “Jay and his family were, and always will be a big part of this track. We miss Jay every day. It’ll be an honor to have his race here at Auto City.”

The Maximum Destruction shows have become wildly popular with the fans of the area. They will get to enjoy this action-packed event seven times in 2021. The drivers also are fond of these shows as Auto City enjoys high participant involvement for these events. But this year, the drivers will like it even more as Auto City has secured sponsorship for this division.

This sponsorship was established to reward drivers who race in the Destruction nights at Auto City Speedway. “We are pleased to have Muffler Man of Mi on board for the first year as a title sponsor of the “Muffler Man” Maximum Destruction Events here at Auto City. Auto City Speedway is committed to bringing more opportunities for our racers to earn extra money, not only during Destruction races, but all season long at AC. With companies like Muffler Man partnering with our race track we can provide these opportunities,” stated DeWitte.

Connecting with James Christensen/Owner, and Robert Bernhoft/General Manager of Muffler Man, Auto City has been able to make it even more lucrative to race in this division. Muffler Man isn’t the only national business that has signed on for the 2021 season. Diehard Batteries will also be a main sponsor of the track and all its divisions. These two big businesses could be game-changers for Joe DeWitte and Auto City Speedway as they beef up their racing schedule for the 2021 season.

Joe warns everybody that it is still winter in Michigan and he has numerous other ideas and possible projects in the works. Additions and changes are common so early in the year, and more details of scheduled events will become more concrete in the future.
