Bergakker Wins Reveal the Hammer at Berlin

Marne, MI (06/09/2021) – Reveal the Hammer, the newly formed Outlaw Super Late Model Series ran its third race of their inaugural schedule at the Berlin Raceway in conjunction with the tracks Money in the Bank Super Late Model race. Brian Bergakker set fast time by more than a tenth of a second over current point leader, Steve Needles. Right after qualifying for the Outlaws, the skies opened up and a massive downpour hit the track. The muggy temperatures helped dry the track promptly and the show was only slightly delayed.

Doug True and Trevor McCoy made up the front row of the 13 car field that was set with an inversion of eight. McCoy paced the field in the early going as drivers settled in for their 100 lap grind. Adam Terry was the first to make a move when he took the lead from McCoy on lap 15. Terry would put some distance on the field as Bergakker would take over second on lap 20, with Steve Needles right behind him. JR Roahrig had made some great moves to travel from the rear of the field up to fifth place during the same time. But on lap 31, that effort came to an end as Roahrig slowed down and brought out the first caution with a flat right front tire. Roahrig went to the pits and changed the tire, and returned to the rear of the field.

On the next lap after the restart, Monte Tolan lost the car into the turn two wall to bring out the second and final caution of the race. Roahrig went back to the pits on this caution and never returned back to the speedway. He finished eleventh. On the restart, Terry set sail again, but Bergakker kept the distance to a minimum as the field strung out all over the half mile. Once they hit the 50 lap mark, Bergakker seemed to turn on the heat. He repeatedly pressured Terry at every corner until on lap 59 he was able to get under Terry and take over the lead. Needles caught the two while they battled, but it took him until lap 76 to finally get around Terry into second place.

By that time, Bergakker was gone. Terry dropped out on lap 82 and finished seventh. Bergakker finished off the 68 lap green flag run and won Round #3 of the RTH Series. Needles kept pace but had to settle for second, followed by Shawn Amor, the final car left on the lead lap after the long green flag run. Mike Root was fourth, and Brian Maxim was fifth, both one lap down.
