Birch Run, MI (Sunday, November 14, 2021) - The Birch Run Speedway and Event Center saw a resurgence in attendance and quality of shows in the last half of 2021. Building off that momentum, officials with the Speedway have released their 2022 schedule.
The racing action will kick off in a big way on April 30th with the first of three visits by the JEGS/CRA All Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance. The weekend will begin on Friday the 29th with a practice day for all classes. At the conclusion of practice there will be an autograph session followed by a concert later in the evening. Saturday the 30th will feature a 100 lap battle for the JEGS/CRA All Stars Tour along with Birch Run Speedway’s regular classes of Modifieds, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Trucks, Front Wheel Drives and Figure 8s. The other two stops in the Triple Crown Series will be on Saturday July 2nd ( with fireworks ) and September 10th. All three events will feature the practice day on Friday with a rain date of that Sunday. As an added bonus for JEGS/CRA All Stars Tour drivers, the Triple Crown Series top three point finishers will be honored at the 2022 Birch Run Speedway Champions Banquet.
The big shows continue on Friday May 6th with the first of two stops for the Reveal The Hammer Outlaw Super Late Model Series. The high powered Super Late Models will tackle the 4/10 mile in the running of the Dixie Shootout 100. The Dixie Classic 100 on August 12th will see drivers like Steve Needles and Tyler Roahrig try to knock off 2021 winner Dan Leeck to take home the trophy and checkered flag. Modifieds, Sportsman, Pure Stocks, Trucks, Front Wheel Drives and Figure 8s will be in action on May 6th while the Modifieds and Figure 8s will be off on August 12th and the Street Stocks join the show.
Modified drivers from around the state will converge on the fast 4/10 mile surface on May 13th for the running of the first Friday Night Thunder Modified Series race. This series will pay an impressive $2,500 to win and give $300 to start. It will feature its own point structure, separate from the regular season long points battles. Other dates for the Friday Night Thunder Modified Series will be on June 10th, July 22nd, and August 19th.
The winged warriors of the Must See Racing Sprint Car Series presented by Engine Pro return to action in Birch Run two times in 2022, The Holly, MI based Sprint Car tour will be in action on June 10th before swinging back in on July 22nd. The last time the 410 powered Sprints were at Birch Run Speedway, 23 cars entered the gates and Jason Blonde beat out Ryan Litt for the win. Fans will also see if any driver can break Brian Gerster’s track record of 13.287 (108 m.p.h.).
The Midwest Classic Racers Dwarf Car Series and the Engine Pro Vintage Modifieds will be part of the track's Open Wheel Specials to coincide with the Friday Night Thunder Modified Series on May 13th, June 10th, July 22nd, and August 19th. The popular “Small cars with the big car attitude” MCR Series, featuring drivers competing in 5/8ths scale replicas of 1928 to 1948 coupes, sedans, and trucks, saw Troy Hoffman win the 2021 season championship. The VROA Engine Pro Vintage Modifieds are full size replicas of pre 1948 vehicles and saw Tom Boorsma claim the 2021 drivers championship.
The always popular Monster X Metal and Gold Eve of Destruction returns in 2022 with more carnage and mayhem starting May 20th. Drivers will compete in events like flag pole races, push races, pull races, figure 8, and trailer figure 8 races. Other Destruction dates will be June 24th ( plus fireworks ), July 29th, August 26th, and September 30th. The wildly popular Mile of Mayhem Figure 8 race will also return as part of the action on September 30th as will the trailer decorating contest.
A Pure Stock and Sport Compact Invitational will be run on May 27th while The
Wheelman 50 Invitationals will take place on July 15th. The Wheelman 50 Invitational will be a showcase for the Sportsman, Street Stock, Pure Stocks, Trucks, and Front Wheel Drives where each class will run a 50 lap feature with a generous increase in payout.
“Regular” nights of racing start June 3rd with additional nights on July 8th, August 5th, and Season Championships/Trophy Night wrapping up the 2022 points season on September 2nd.
