Bristol Dirt Nationals Great Lakes Update: Saturday Night

Bristol, TN (Sunday, March 21, 2021) - The final night unfolded for the Karl Kustoms Bristol Dirt Nationals at the Bristol Motor Speedway, highlighted by a $50,000 40-lap Super Late Model feature. Also on the card Saturday night were Hornets, Stock Cars, Open Modifieds and 604 Crate Late Models.

For the Michigan representatives, just two were let with a shot at making the 'big dance' Saturday night. Bryant Dickinson and David Mielke did not make the call for their Heat Races or their B-Mains on Saturday night. Mielke was slated to run a backup car on Saturday, however, there has been no update posted to social media on why they were not in their races. As for Dickinson, engine problems forced an early end to his Bristol Dirt Nationals.

That left Chris Nash and Travis Stemler as the two drivers with a shot at representing Michigan in the grand-finale. After their heat races, both drivers were forced to run one of two B-Mains to set the rest of the field. In B-Main number one, Stemler started on the pole and led a few laps before he started to fall through the field. It appeared as though his hopes of making the show were slipping away, but he managed to hold on to the fourth and final transfer spot to punch his ticket to the show. Nash would not be as fortunate, coming up shy of a transfer spot, finishing seventh in his B-Main.

In the main event, Stemler started in the last row of the field, rolling off in the 23rd spot. By the time the checkered flag fell, Stemler kept his nose clean and worked his way to a 15th place finish.

The story for the Open Modifieds was similar with just one Michigan driver making the show. Andy Galgoci had a shot at racing his way in through his B-Main, but came in just short with a 6th place finish. That left Curt Spalding as the lone representative in the big dance, starting inside the top 10. Spalding challenged for a podium position on several occasions, but in the end he would settle for a 4th place finish.

One area Hornet driver qualified for the finale at Bristol, Kaleb Hinkley. Unfortunately, Hinkley was caught up in a turn one pile-up which unofficially scored him in 21st.
