Dale McDowell Wires Lil’ Bill Corum Field for Net Payday of Over $23,000

Spring Thaw at Volunteer Speedway this Friday and Saturday

MOORESBURG, Tenn. (04/01/24) – After coming up one lap short of victory on Friday night, Dale McDowell bounced back on Saturday night to pocket a victory worth more than $23,000 aboard the Shane McDowell Racing / E-Z-GO No. 17m Cometic Gaskets / Klotz Synthetic Lubricants / Connected Strategy Advisors / Team Zero Race Cars / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

McDowell’s winning performance was achieved at the famed Tazewell Speedway in the fourth annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial. He received $21,000 for the triumph and an additional $2,100 for setting fast time during qualifications.

“First and foremost, I need to thank the good Lord for a good safe race,” said McDowell in Schaeffer’s Oil Victory Lane. “It’s Easter weekend, so this win is special to me, and I watched Bill Corum race when I was a kid. It’s just a neat deal all around and I’m honored to have won this race for a second time. Shane (McDowell) made some great changes to the car tonight. Brandon (Overton) was a little better than us last night, but tonight we were a little better. Just a great night for us, I have to thank all of my awesome sponsors, the crew guys, and everyone that supports our team!”

Dale McDowell returned to the driver’s seat of the Shane McDowell Racing No. 17m Super Late Model over the weekend for a pair of East Tennessee events with the Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals Series.

With 39 Late Models entered at I-75 Raceway (Sweetwater, Tenn.) on Friday evening, McDowell topped the speed charts in time trials with a 14.993-second lap before placing first in his heat race. Starting second on the grid for the $10,053-to-wn opener, Dale set the early pace but surrendered the lead on the final lap to Brandon Overton, relegating him to second in the finishing order.

In search of redemption on Saturday at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.), Dale raced into the Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial A-Main with a dominant victory in his heat race. Leading flag-to-flag in the 75-lap feature, McDowell outran Brandon Overton to secure his first victory of the 2024 season and the $21,000 top prize. He finished 2.580 seconds ahead of Overton with Sam Seawright rounding out the podium.

The win marked McDowell’s 18th-career Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals triumph.

Earlier in the night, McDowell collected a whopping $2,100 Fast Time Award courtesy of Toyota of Knoxville after topping the charts in qualifying.
