A wildly consistent season that started in early April at Bristol Motor Speedway during the US Short Track Nationals came to an end last Saturday at Winchester Speedway for Matt Dimit on the Midwest Modifieds Tour Powered by Wheeler Trucking. The Fort Wayne, IN native, captured just one win in eight races with the Tour, but eight consecutive top-five finishes helped him track down his second consecutive Championship.
A runner-up finish to Cody Stickler kicked off the 2024 season for Dimit who held off Kyle Purvis for P2 on the podium but just couldn't erase Stickler's two-second lead. The No.7 echoed his performance at Bristol with another second-place run during the Mountaineer 100 at Ona Speedway on April 27th trailing Brian Nester at the conclusion of the 50-lap event. Dimit's worst run of the season came on May 11th at Berlin Raceway in Marne, MI when he finished fourth behind fellow Modified superstars Brian Bergakker, Nester, and Trevor Berry.
Dimit found victory lane at Salem Speedway on June 8th during event number two of the King of the High Banks Series that ran alongside the CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS and the Vore's Compact Touring Series. Dimit had to hold off a late race charge from Brett Hudson to get the win by just three-tenths-of-a-second. The end of June brought the Midwest Modifieds Tour alongside the 500 Sprint Car Tour at Toledo Speedway where Dimit matched his worst finish of the season, another fourth behind Berry, Purvis, and Nester. July finished with a stop at Owosso Speedway where Dimit brought home the third step of the podium behind Kyle Hayden and eventual track champion, Aaron Taylor.
The final two events of the season were held at Winchester Speedway starting with the World Stock Car Festival on Labor Day Weekend. The event was also the final race of the King of the High Banks Series, an inter-season championship that Dimit won after finishing third to Wayne Chinn and Kyle Purvis. Dimit went on to finalize the 2024 Midwest Modifieds Tour overall Championship during the 53rd Winchester 400 weekend with another third-place finish behind Nester and Purvis.
Dimit becomes the first back-to-back champion of the Midwest Modifieds Tour. Kyle Purvis ended the ICAR Modified tenure as a back-to-back champion in 2018 and 2019.
