ROCHESTER, Minn. (01/13/25) – In just his fourth Modified start of the 2025 season, Dustin Sorensen steered his Paulson Rock Products / Altenburg Construction No. 19 Longhorn Chassis by Sorensen to a win, parking in Vado Speedway Park’s Victory Lane on Saturday night.
The $2,000 victory came in the fourth round of the 19th annual Rio Grande Waste Services Wild West Shootout, held at the fast 3/8-mile oval in Vado, New Mexico.
“This car has been a blast to drive,” Sorensen said. “It has been capable of winning every night, we just haven’t had things go our way. I think we showed the speed of this car tonight. Hats off to everyone that helps put these cars together and all my sponsors that allow me to live out my dream.”
After Thursday’s preliminary was canceled due to snowy weather, Dustin Sorensen and his team returned to Vado (N.M.) Speedway Park on Friday afternoon to compete in the final three rounds of the 19th annual Rio Grande Waste Services Wild West Shootout presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts.
With his Late Model and Modified unloaded for Friday’s preliminary program, Sorensen recorded a pair of fourth-place finishes in both features, highlighted by a stellar 16th-to-4th run in the Modified main event.
During another round of preliminaries on Saturday evening, Dustin’s night took an early setback when he retired from the Super Late Model A-Main. However, he quickly turned things around in his Modified. The Rochester, Minnesota native dominated the 25-lap feature, leading flag-to-flag to claim his first win of the season and the $2,000 winner’s payday. Sorensen outran Modified heavyweights Cade Dillard and Kyle Strickler.
Sorensen concluded his Wild West Shootout campaign on Sunday with strong outings across both divisions. After finishing sixth in the Late Model feature, Sorensen mounted an impressive charge in the Modified event, advancing from the ninth row to finish as the runner-up. The 24-year-old earned the hard-charger honors for his efforts.
In the miniseries point standings, Sorensen finished seventh in the Late Model rankings and secured a runner-up spot in the Modified standings, finishing just behind Kyle Strickler.
