In the Second Annual Bob Finley Memorial at Owosso Speedway on Wednesday, June 19th, out of the nearly 40 cars on property, everyone's heart knew one driver would pull out all the stops to win the $20,067 plus lap money; and Chad Finley did just that. After a battle with Phil Bozell on lap 51 resulted in Bozell spinning down the front stretch, Finley was then forced to hold off two-time Reveal the Hammer Outlaw Super Late Model Champion, Steve Needles. The caution filled event would force Finley and line-up alongside Needles and defend his top spot right down to the checkered flag. Needles was albe to show more speed than Finley in the final run according to the stop-watch, but the No.14N couldn't find what he needed to reel in Finley.
Brian Bergakker and Phil Bozell swapped the lead several times in the first 50 laps before Finley moved into the top spot. Bergakker was forced to retire from the race just after the halfway mark. The other drama in the event was for that of Tyler Roahrig. Scheduled to be the final qualifier earlier in the day, Roahrig had to wait an additional 45 minutes to run his lap after Dan Leeck's No.55 blew an engine in his qualifying effort. Despite the track's best attempt to clean the track properly, Roahrig was still nearly a full second off of his practice pace during his qualifying run. Reveal the Hammer officials elected to give Roahrig a provisional at the tail of the field. The Plymouth, IN naive drove from 27th to 6th before being forced to retire from the event with an apparent mechanical issue.
A date has not yet been set for the 3rd Annual Bob Finley Memorial.
After lap money, Finley took home over $22,000 for his efforts on Wednesday night.
A huge payday awaited the Modifieds at Owosso Speedway as well for the Bob Finley Memorial. Another event filled with cautions was enough to put stress on pole sitter, Curtis Spencer. With Aaron TAylor and Trevor Berry on the hunt, Spencer was forced to be flawless down the stretch of the 50 lap main event. Spencer did just that and held off Taylor and Berry on the podium.
The next event for Owosso Speedway is Saturday, June 22nd featuring the Must See Racing Sprint Cars and Midwest Classic Racer Dwarf cars.
