Hettinger Racing Announces Purchase of NASCAR Truck Team; Plans Martinsville & Phoenix with Moffitt

Writer: Zach HiserZach Hiser

Michigan natives Chris Hettinger alongside daughter Katie Hettinger left their home state last season to pursue a full blown career in auto racing. This summer, Katie Hettinger announced she would be stepping away from her roll as full-time driver for the team to focus on finishing out her high school career. Meanwhile, Hettinger Racing forged on with drivers like Aaron Donnelly in the Late Model and Dawson Sutton in the ARCA Menards Series. On Tuesday morning, Hettinger Racing announced they would add another layer to the organization, buying Bret Holmes Racing and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series assets, including signing driver, 2018 Truck Series Champion, Brett Moffitt to close out the 2024 season.

Hettinger Racing post:

"Bret Holmes Racing (BHR) is an accomplished NASCAR team that has competed in the ARCA Menards Series and the Truck Series. The organization won the 2020 ARCA championship with Holmes serving as both driver and owner. They entered 20 Truck Series races this year, but took a brief hiatus following their ninth-place finish on Oct. 4 at Talladega Superspeedway. The downtime allowed us to complete the purchase in time for the final two Truck Series races of the season – this Friday at Martinsville Speedway and Nov. 8 at Phoenix Raceway. Moffitt will drive the No. 4 Victory Custom Trailers Chevrolet Silverado in both events.

Between the investments we’ve made over the years in our Late Model program and the opportunity to purchase BHR, the time was right to grow Hettinger Racing into a team that can further drivers’ development by seamlessly transitioning them from Late Models to ARCA to Trucks. We’ll continue our Late Model program by running the zMAX CARS Tour, and we’ll run select ARCA and Truck Series races that fit best with our overall schedule.

Brett Moffitt gives us a great opportunity to get a head start on 2025. He’s proven himself in the Truck Series and his feedback from this week’s race at Martinsville and next week’s race at Phoenix will be invaluable. We’ve had a lot to do in a short period of time to get ready for these last two Truck Series races, and we’re confident the effort we’re putting in now will pay dividends next year.

Team President, Chris Hettinger said in a post on his social media that competing in NASCAR was something he dreamed of doing as a driver. Hettinger says he's 'beyond excited' for Friday's Truck Series Debut.

" I can’t think of a better way to enter into this new venture than with Brett Moffitt," Hettinger said. "He is an exceptional talent and just a great all-around person."

Moffitt has only made two starts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 2024, a fifth-place finish on May 4th at Kansas Speedway and 15th on May 24th at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Iowa native also has one NASCAR XFinity start to his credit this year coming at Iowa Speedway on June 15th.

Hettinger Racing's NASCAR debut will come this Friday, November 1st at 6:00 PM ET from Martinsville Speedway for the ZIP Buy Now, Pay Later 200 followed by the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Championship on Friday, November 8th at 8:00 PM ET.
