New Smyrna Beach, FL (Saturday, February 13, 2021) - Friday of the final week of what is known around the racing world as Speedweeks. Once again, Daytona International Speedway had the limelight with an intense Camping World Truck Series event; one that included Portage, Michigan's, Carson Hocevar. The Michigan region was also well represented at other tracks in Florida Friday night.
Rolling from the 12th starting spot, Hocevar and his Niece Motorsports teammates quickly and intentionally fell to the back of the field to ride out the first two stages. The plan worked as well, with Hocevar narrowly missing several crashes ahead of him. Inside 30 laps to go, the plan changed as Hocevar began to race with the front pack. The decision did get him collected in a backstretch pile-up inside 10 to go, that looked as though it could dampen the rest of their race. The 18-year-old behind the wheel of the GM Parts Now 42 stayed resilient and continued to fight for positions. Avoiding a front stretch melee coming to the checkered flag, Hocevar came home fifth in his first career Daytona oval race.
Elsewhere in Florida, Ohio's Max Stambaugh brought home another top ten during the King of the 360s at East Bay Raceway Park. Behind the wheel of the NEFCO, Inc 5s machine, Stambaugh was again the highest finishing Great Lakes Region driver. Zane DeVault, who missed the show on night one, finished 10th in night two. Tyle Gunn and Phil Gressman were the other regional drivers in the show, finishing 17th and 19th respectively.
