McManus Goes Three in a row at Birch Run Speedway

Birch Run, MI (Saturday, August 21, 2021) – The Midwest Modified Tour paid visit to the quaint Birch Run Speedway and Event Center Friday night for the penultimate race of the 2021 tour.

It was a pair of sevens leading the 21 car field to green, with Josh Ware on the outside front row and David McManus, winner of the previous two modified features at Birch Run Speedway, on the pole. Current tour points leader Dave Jackson, lined-up P3, ahead of Al and Trevor Berry in positions four and five.

McManus gained the early advantage on the initial start, opening a sizable lead over Ware. Trevor Barry spent the opening eight laps fighting for the third spot with Dave Jackson. Berry successfully made the pass on the inside and began tracking down Ware and McManus.

By the halfway point, Berry had closed the gap to Ware. Berry searched inside and searched outside for a way around the black number 7w but Ware continued to close the door, holding off Barry.

On lap 37 the caution flag was displayed for a lapped car spinning through the turn two grass.

On the ensuing restart, McManus secured the early advantage once again, quickly pulling a way from Ware and Berry. Berry didn’t waste any time before beginning a barrage of attacks on Ware. This time Berry went to work on the bottom groove and within five laps, successfully completed the pass in turn one. Meanwhile, making use of the battle behind him, McManus opened a half straightaway lead.

The gap – it was just too much for Barry to overcome.

David McManus, with his left arm extended out the window, celebrated as he crossed the stripe to claim his third feature win in a row and fifth on the season at Birch Run Speedway.

Trevor Berry came home second and Josh Ware rounded out the podium.

McManus told Horsepower Happenings Correspondent, Ed Inloes in victory lane that this win, compared to the other four, was ‘the next level up’. Sighting the elevated competition with great drivers competing from Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan.

The next stop for the Midwest Modified Tour is Championship night, on Saturday night of Winchester 400 race weekend at the legendary high banks in Winchester, Indiana.

Birch Run Speedway and Event Center returns with House Racing next Friday night, August the 27th.
