Kalamazoo, MI - The 2024 season is now officially underway for Kalamazoo Speedway and their weekly house divisions. The opener featured their Late Model Sportsman, Outlaw Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, Outlaw Front Wheel Drives, and DOT Front Wheel Drives.
Ken Papesh and Jorden Brinkert led the Late Model field to the Green Flag for the 35 lap main event. The typically large inverts for Kalamazoo Speedway seemed to be in full effect as big movers shot to the top of the pilon. Battle Creek, MI native, Jerry Pierman drove his No.42 from the 12th starting spot to the point and picked up the win. He brought Billy Shannon with him and the two raced each other hard for the remained of the event. Jared Blanchard rounded out the podium, Kenny Head and Chris Garrett finished the top five.
In the debut of the Outlaw Limited Late Models at Kalamazoo, 8 cars unloaded on the property, however, just seven took the green flag. Paul Jakubik brought the field to the green flag alongside Louis Miller. In the end, Jeff Ganus was able to keep youngster Bryce Bozell at bay for the debut win. Josh Trammell and A.J. Foote completed the top five.
The Street Stocks, which have been hailed as one of the fan-favorite divisions not just at Kalamazoo Speedway but across the state, did not dissapoint on the first evening in 2024. Zack Westdorp and MAdison Snyder were charged with leading the 22 car field to the green. As the 35 lap event progressed, it was clear the race would be determined between Alamo, Michigan's Kyle VanSparrentak and Constantine, Michigan's Brock Ganus. VanSparrentak had the top spot at the white flag, but Ganus used a little muscle to take the lead and the eventual win. VanSparrentak held on for second, Mike Zordan finished third ahead of Jeffery Town and Ricky LaDuke.
Matthew Elsey, Jr made a happy trip back to Otsego on Friday night after picking up the win from 15th in the Outlaw Front Wheel Drives. He held off Dave Leonard, Jr and Matt Elsey, Sr for the win. Scott Elsey took the nightcap in the DOT Front Wheel Drives holding off Desmon Wakins and Reilly Meade. Bo Brady and Jason Lee completed the top five.
The next event for Kalamazoo Speedway is scheduled for Saturday, April 27th for the Intimidator 100 featuring the Outlaw Super Late Models Oulaw Front Wheel Drives, and Street Stocks. Racing starts at 7:30 PM. For more information find Kalamazoo Speedway online at KalamazooSpeedway.com or on Facebook.
