New Smyrna Beach, FL - The World Series of Asphalt continued on Wednesday night at New Smyrna Speedway with Pro Late Models, Super Late Models, Florida Modifieds, 602 Tour Mods and Touring Modifieds all in action. The nights are winding down with just two remaining after officials elected to scrap Saturday's action due to inclement weather forecasted in the greater Florida area.
The first race of the night featured the Pro Late Models with Katie Hettinger again bringing the field to green for the 35 lap contest. Hettinger led the opening hadnful of laps before Jimmy Renfrew, Jr, Hunter Wright, and Dawson Sutton closed in on the No.71. Renfrew got by and opened the door for Wright to move through as well. Hettinger stopped the bleeding by holding off three-time WSoA winner this week, Sutton. As the laps clicked off, Renfrew tried to runaway and hide, but caution flags would keep the field tight. Wright, however, couldn't find the positioning he needed to get to the front and would settle for second as Renfrew crossed the line in first. Hettinger held on for a podium. Things would change after postrace technical inspection when Renfrew was disqualified after failing the compression test. That handed the win over to Wright, his first of the World Series to go with multiple 2nd and 3rd place finishes.
In Super Late Models, Gio Ruggiero returned to victory lane in a lightly contested race that saw Ruggiero roll from the pole alongside teammate Brent Crews. Both drivers strongarmed the top spots, keeping Gabe Sommers and Derek Kraus at bay who rolled from 3rd and 4th respectively.
Super Late Models will race the rescheduled Orange Blossom 100, originally scheduled for Saturday, on Thursday night.
Matt Hershman dominated the Tour Modifieds John Blewitt III Memorial to end the night. Full results are still pending post-race tech.
