Detroit, MI (Saturday, January 30, 2021) - Ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, Donny Schatz, etched his name in sprint car racing history books yet again, this time by claiming the first round of the inaugural Sugarlands Shine Southern Tour presented by Elliott’s Custom Trailers and Carts at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Georgia. Schatz, who now owns 19-career All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 victories, scored his triumph from the outside of row two, eventually working by Indianapolis, Indiana’s Tyler Courtney to take control on lap 18. Current Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship Point Leader Brandon Overton picked up his first win of the season on Friday Night at East Bay Raceway Park. Overton grabbed the lead from Tim McCreadie on the 27th lap and went on to claim his eighth career series win. A spirited battle for the lead consumed over half the race with more than five different race leaders. Tyler Bruening started 11th and charged to second at the finish for his best career LOLMDS finish. McCreadie came home in third followed by 21st starting Devin Moran, and Shane Clanton. Brian Shirley started on the pole and led the first eight laps until Jimmy Owens took over the lead, but a few laps later Shirley regained the point. Shirley stayed in front until lap 26 when Mike Marlar took over the lead. Marlar’s lead was short-lived as he held the lead for just one circuit until McCreadie charged ahead after a restart. Thursday night saw Erick Rudolph and Stewart Friesen participate in an all-out slugfest for the Short Track Super Series win at Bubba Raceway Park. On Friday night, the two fought once more, with Friesen coming out victorious after another race-long battle with Rudolph. In an opposite scenario from yesterday, Friesen took the lead from Rudolph late in the 40-lap event for the $6,000 victory. A third-to-first move on the initial start put Billy Pauch Jr. in the early lead, with Rudolph slipping into second. Pauch held tough through some early restarts, but on lap nine, Rudolph pried his way under Pauch to take the top spot. Maresca followed through for second, and Pauch’s fun ended there, as Pauch got crossed up and fell out of the top five.
