De Leon Springs, FL (Friday, February 5, 2021) - Volusia Speedway Park was again home to the majority of the 2021 Speedweeks action on Thursday night. The Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions and DIRTcar UMP Modifieds controlled the Florida turf heading into a massive weekend of racing. Plus, East Bay Raceway Park saw Late Model Racing, and Bubba Raceway Park is preparing for USAC NOS Energy Drink Midgets.
Carson Macedo led wire-to-wire in his Jason Johnson Racing Number 41 machine Thursday night. Jumping out to the lead from his pole starting position, Macedo fended off charges for the previous night's winner, Logan Schuchart, and former World of Outlaws Champion, Brad Sweet. Macedo's win is the seventh of his career and earned him $6,000 for his efforts. The race served as the finale of the ASCoC Speedweeks. They return to action on Friday and Saturday, April 9-10th at Attica Raceway Park.
DIRTcar UMP Modifieds welcomed nearly 100 cars for the third straight night and rolled off Twin-20 lap features for the second night in a row. In the first feature, Jason Hughes powered from his outside row two starting spot to stay in position to win. Following a restart, Hughes drove to the outside of race leader, Tyler Nicely. When Nicely picked up a push in turn three, Hughes turned left and drove under the former Feature winner.
The second feature saw 'The High Side Tickler', Kyle Strickler lose the lead from his pole position, but battle back for the win. David Stremme used his outside-row-one starting spot to gain the lead. With less than 10 laps to go, Stremme caught lapped traffic at the wrong time and had to check-up heading into turn three. This opened the door for Strickler to go to the bottom of the Speedway and take the lead. Strickler held on for the final eight laps to collect the win.
Crate Racin' USA took over East Bay Raceway Park. Mark Whitener, who had just competed with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series the week prior, held on to win the dramatic event.
Tonight, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars take over the sanctioning duties of the 410 Sprint Cars, while every DIRTcar UMP Modified on the property will run a 15-lap A-Main. Plus, pavement starts to gain some attention with the first night of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing featuring Modifieds and Late Models.
