Crystal Motor Speedway joined the list of tracks in Michigan to standup to the State's poor week-long weather forecast and have a successful night of racing Saturday night. American Racer Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, and a full slate of support divisions.
Ionia, Michigan native, Travis Stemler told Horsepower Happenings in April after his win at Attica Raceway Park, that he could be on his way to another multi-win season much like the last time he won the Attica opener. On Saturday, he added evidence to support the claim. Starting on the outside of row 2, Stemler held second after the opening lap battling with Brandon Thirlby. Garrett Wiles jumped out to the early race lead, but not a big one with Stemler and Thirlby in tow. Stemler officially took the lead after about five rotations settling in at the front of the field on a locked down dry slick track. Stemler opened up a sizeable gap over Wiles and Thirlby, but in lapped traffic toward the end of the race, Stemler felt the pressure as the No.4 car appeared to fade. Then, a caution with less than five laps to go reset the field and resulted in a pile-up in turn one.
In IMCA Modified action, Jeff Reay started on the inside of row 3 and appeared to take the lead on lap five, but a caution before the lap was completed moved Reay back for a unique "Crystal" restart where the top three line up single-file ahead of a double-file field. Reay made the pass official one lap after the caution with a power move on Don Proctor, Jr who had led the race early. After Reay got the lead, he never gave it back staying clear of a charge from Myron DeYoung and Mitchell Hunt.
Ryan Teeter started on the pin and took home the win in the 25 lap Pro Stock feature. The big mover of the night came from 9th when Kyle Hunt finished second. Kolby Rohn rounded out the podium with Danielle Robinson and Jeremy Spencer completing the top five. For Pro Trucks, Kent Strong came from third to take the win over Jim Beltz and Jason Barrus. Curtis Dancer finished fourth after starting 12th ahead of Jerry Singleton who rounded out the top five.
In Street Stock action, Gary Vandermark and Andrew Bogart bullied the field from having any say in the top two positions. The pair started one-two and finished one-two on Saturday night. Josh Loomis fought his way from seventh to finish third ahead of Chris Stahl and Dillon Kohn who rounded out the top five.
