Travis Eddy Opens World Series With Dominating Win
New Smyrna Beach, FL (Saturday, February 6, 2021) - The season is officially underway for the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series and the defending champion came out on top during Friday night's action at Volusia Speedway Park. The DIRTcar UMP Modifieds wrapped up their portion of the 50th edition of the DIRTcar Nationals as Late Models prepare to move in. Plus, New Smyrna Speedway kicked off the 2021 edition of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing with a thrilling night of racing.
Brad Sweet, the 2020 World of Outlaws Champion was patient until lap nine of the season opener at Volusia. Jacob Allen jumped to the early lead as 'The Big Cat' Sweet settled into a groove. While Allen pounded the cushion, Sweet worked the inside of the race track and passed Allen with 22 laps remaining, bringing Logan Schuchart with him. Schuchart was never able to mount a strong challenge on Sweet, who held on for the season-opening win.
The DIRTcar UMP Modifieds moved into their multi-feature format on Friday night, hosting five separate shows 15-laps in distance. Winners included David Reutimann, Clay Harris, Chad Roush, Nick Allen, and Richard Michael. Saturday night will be the final night of DIRTcar UMP Modified action at Volusia.
The World Series of Asphalt Short Track Racing kicked off from New Smyrna Speedway Friday night. Michigan's Travis Eddy again dominated the Pavement Modified division, winning the feature by over a straightaway lead. Jett Noland snuck around open-wheel ace Kody Swanson for the Pro Late Model win, while Ryan Moore survived an eventful Super Late Model show.
