A pair of weekend events for the Ti22 Performance FAST On Dirt 410-winged sprint cars found Leyton Wagner scoring his first career FAST sprint car feature victory at Wayne County Speedway on Saturday night. A night later, it was defending tour champion and current point leader, Brandon Spithaler dominating at Tr-City Raceway Park. Spithaler overcame pulling the worst pill in the redraw to race from sixth to the win.
The Wayne County Speedway action found 23 cars registered for racing with Michigan's Bobby Elliott setting overall quick time in group 2 qualifying with a 14.887 second lap. Elliott currently sits third in tour points, while the 1-2 point racers, Brandon Spithaler and Zane DeVault, paced groups 1 and 3. Heat race wins went to Cody Bova, Leyton Wagner and 2020 tour champion, Tyler Gunn.
Cody Bova and Leyton Wagner drag raced to the green at the start of the 30-lap main event. It was Wagner establishing himself as the race leader in an event that would be slowed by numerous cautions. Aside from restarts, the closest anyone would get to Wagner were the times he'd hit lapped traffic. One close brush with disaster came late in the race when he bounced off the turn 2 guardrail allowing Spithaler, DeVault and Gunn to close in, setting up a four-car battle at the point.
Recovering from the brush with the wall, Wagner raced on to the win, expanding his lead in the final laps. Zane DeVault got going late and got by Spithaler for the runner-up spot. Tyler Gunn and Henry Malcuit completed the top 5. The balance of the top 10 were Cody Bova, Bryan Nuckles, Tanner Tecco, Lee Jacobs and Dylan Kingan.
The tour moved on to Tri-City Raceway Park on Sunday where an uncharacteristically slim field of only 17 cars signed in. Brandon Spithaler laid down the law early setting overall quick time to lead group one with a lap at 15.337. Dylan Cisney was quickest in group two. Cody Bova and Dale Blaney won preliminary heat races.
Cisney and Bova brought the field to green with Cisney grabbing the early race lead. From one extreme to the other, overnight, the Tri-City main event would run caution free. Spithaler was backed against the wall, drawing the dreaded six in the redraw, but he came out with his guns blazing and roared to the lead and race win in convincing fashion. Cisney would hold on for second over a late charging Zane DeVault who rounded out the podium. Bova and Blaney finished fourth and fifth as the rest of the top 10 included Carl Bowser, Jeremy Weaver, Jack Sodeman Jr, Derek Hauck and Bob Felmlee.
FAST returns to action this Saturday night at Muskingum County Speedway near Zanesville, Ohio. Watch for details on this event in the coming days!
