The Michigan CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by Engine Pro and ARP (GLSS) as well as the Ohio CAT GLSS divisions are in action this weekend, and mother nature has already helped relieve some of the stress. Originally scheduled as a weekend with three races in two days, Limaland Motorsports Park (OH) has already pulled the plug on their Friday night show, leaving Hartford Speedway as the lone track on the Friday bill. Then, on Saturday, The Ohio CAT GLSS are in action at Fremont Speedway for the first time this season.
Hartford Speedway is a fan and driver favorite that has been on the GLSS calendar since year one. Many drivers have found themselves in Hartford Speedway victory lane over the years, including previous champions. The first-ever event held at Hartford was a co-sanctioned affair with the American Sprint Car Series. Johnny Herrera took the win over Sam Hafertepe, Jr and Wayne Johnson. Dustin Daggett was the highest finishing local in sixth. Since then, eight different drivers have won at Hartford including Daggett (2016, 2021), Gregg Dalman (2018, 2022), Ryan Ruhl (2019 x2, 2021), Chase Ridenhour (2020), Max Stambaugh (2022, 2023), Phil Gressman (2022, 2023), and most recently Brad Lamberson and Jay Steinebach in 2023.
On Saturday, the Sprint Cars head south to Fremont (OH) Speedway for the first trip in 2024. Not many events have been contested at Fremont under the GLSS banner, however, some under the former NRA brand are lumped into the GLSS history book. Nate Dussel was victorious there in 2017 before Dan McCarron went to victory lane in 2021. Cole Macedo swept both appearances in 2022 before Max Stambaugh won in the only visit of 2023.
