Texas' Michael Wins FAST at Waynesfield; Locals Have Strong Showing

Special from Waynesfield Raceway Park - After sitting dormant for the 2020 season due to COVID-19 restrictions, Waynesfield Raceway Park swung open the gates to race teams and fans for the 2021 season opener, featuring the TI-22 Performance FAST 410 Winged Sprint Cars, and the MPD Racing BOSS Non-Wing Sprint Cars. "The Texas Traveler" TJ Michael prevailed in FAST action in his #8m Winged Sprint car, and #74 Drew Rader saved the best for last, making a last-lap pass to grab the victory in the BOSS Non-Wing "Let's Go 30" honoring the late Russ Cook.

The TI-22 Performance 410 WInged Sprints were first on the tricky 1/3 mile oval at Waynesfield, with #97 Gary Taylor and TJ Michael leading the field to green. Taylor and Michael would battle the first couple laps with Taylor grabbing the early lead, until lap 10, when #22D Cole Duncan made his way to the lead in lapped traffic. Michael would battle with Taylor to grab 2nd spot on lap 13, but Duncan appeared to have the car to beat, until spinning to avoid a lapped car on lap 16. This would hand the lead back to Michael with Taylor in close pursuit. Elida Ohio's Max Stambaugh worked his way to 3rd in the Wicked Cushion #5M on lap 16. Caution would wave again with one lap remaining for a pile-up in turn 4 that saw #6M Kody Swanson, and Duncan get upside down, with #22M Dan McCarron taking a heavy hit as well. The field would take the green flag for a 1 lap dash to the finish with Michael holding off Taylor, Stambaugh, #A79 Brandon Wimmer, and #00 Thomas Meseraull. COle Duncan was quick time in qualifying, and heat races were won by McCarron, #1 Nate Dussel, and Thomas Meseraull.

Completing the night's racing were the MPD Racing BOSS Non-Wing Sprint Cars in the inaugural "Let's Go 30" honoring the late Russel Cook. The fans initiated the pushing off of the cars with a rousing "LET'S GO" as Russ was famous for saying, if he didn't think the show was moving quick enough. #1H Korbyn Hayslett and #24S Landon Simon would lead the field to the green flag, with Hayslett grabbing the early lead. A lap 1 caution would take out early favorite #18H Dallas Hewitt, and a caution would wave again on lap 2 for a spinning #57 Cole Bodine. Hayslett would lead until lap 17, when Harrod, Ohio's, Dustin Ingle would head to the point in the Gross and Son's #2DI after stalking Hayslett for several laps. The yellow flag waved once again on lap 18 for Hayslett, who appeared to have a rear-end failure in his #1H, ending his night. #74 Drew Rader and #78 Rob Caho would battle until lap 22 when Rader would get by for good. Caution would wave one more time on lap 26, as #9X Ricky Peterson would tag the front stretch wall, get upside down and pirouette, before landing on all 4 wheels and driving away. Peterson's car was unable to continue. On the restart, Ingle would continue to lead, until the final lap, as Drew Rader had enough to get by and grab the Let's Go 30 victory.
