A light week for the Template Late Model division across the state of Michigan on the first weekend of May. The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour was out of town racing at Anderson Speedway in Indiana, it was scheduled off week for the Super Late Models of Berlin Raceway, and the season opener at Corrigan Oil Speedway was cancelled due to weather.
A few tracks, however, did host the Templates as part of their show. Buddy Head did the double this weekend, racing at both Kalamazoo Speedway and Owosso Speedway, gaining the most points of anyone on the board so far. A light field at Kalamazoo, however, took some potential points off the board for Head when he finished fourth earning just two points for the effort; Billy Shannon won the Friday night feature at Kzoo. A rebound was found on Saturday for Head, though after he dominated the Owosso Speedway Late Model Sportsman opener getting all the available 10 points for the win.
Saturday not only featured racing at Owosso Speedway, but Springport Mid-Michigan Speedway raced as well. John Trudell came from 7th to grab the win over Jerry Pierman, however, another light field again took potential points off the board for everyone in the field of 8 cars.
Light fields and a big start with the Touring division last week allows Blake Rowe to maintain the lead in the Power Rankings. Late Model Sportsman drivers have a chance to overthrow the Super/Pro Late Model stronghold at the top this weekend as both divisions are off the schedule again. Kalamazoo Speedway hosts Late Models on Friday night before Springport Mid-Michigan Speedway on Saturday as well as the Owosso Showdown featuring the Vore's Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman against the house division of Late Models at Owosso.
